The Department of
Animal Science was established in 1993 and started to admit students in the Associate
Degree in Animal Production Technology. The Bachelor of Animal Production
Technology and the Master of Animal Science Degrees were established in 2005
and 2011, respectively. The department offers undergraduate and graduate
programs in the farm animal nutrition including ruminants and poultries, genetics
and breeding and animal physiology. Currently there are 11 academics including
four associate professors, six assistant professors and one PhD candidate.
There are three laboratories including animal and poultry nutrition, animal
physiology and microbiology laboratories for educational and research purposes
of undergraduate and graduate students as well as the research projects of the
department members. There is also a research farm equipped with various
research facilities based on rearing major animal species of both indigenous
and exotic origin including dairy cattle, sheep and poultry. In the bachelor
degree, there are 75 students. Moreover, in master degree, there are 15
students in poultry nutrition, 16 in ruminants nutrition, 15 in animal physiology
and 2 students in animal genetics and breeding.
