University Introduction

Jiroft University, with a built-up area of approximately 200,000 square meters on a 200-hectare campus, is located 8 kilometers along the Jiroft–Bandar Abbas road. In line with the policies of the Islamic Republic of Iran in higher education, and considering the region’s potential and capacities, the Jiroft Higher Education Complex of Natural Resources and Agricultural Sciences was elevated to Jiroft University on January 23, 2010. Since the first semester of the 2009–2010 academic year, the university has independently commenced its educational and research activities.

Currently, more than 4,000 students are studying in 34 majors and concentrations at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels, across 26 academic departments and 5 faculties: Literature and Humanities, Basic Sciences, Engineering, Agriculture, and Natural Resources.

About the University

Jiroft University, with more than 30 years of history, began its educational and research activities in 1989 (1368 in the Iranian calendar) after receiving initial approval from the Higher Education Development Council, under the title of a satellite college affiliated with Shahid Bahonar University of Kerman.

Over the years, the university has undergone steady development. By obtaining authorization for establishing a faculty, then evolving into a higher education complex, and finally, in 2010 (1388), being upgraded from the Faculty of Agriculture to Jiroft University, it entered a new chapter in the scientific advancement of southern Kerman Province.

With a 5,000-year-old civilization and over 7,000 years of history—recognized as one of the world’s earliest human civilizations—along with its ecotourism attractions, climatic diversity within a compact geographical area, status as one of the most important agricultural production hubs, and its rich mineral resources known as the “lost paradise” of Iran’s mines, Jiroft University has emerged as a major center for the generation and dissemination of knowledge and technology in southeastern Iran.

Today, through the establishment and expansion of advanced educational and research infrastructure, Jiroft University—with 5 faculties, 36 academic programs, and nearly 3,500 students—plays a significant role in nurturing talented individuals and contributing to scientific and technological progress in the country.

The presence of 189 full-time faculty members has had a remarkable impact not only on education but also on strengthening the university’s research environment and advancing science and technology. The high rate of acceptance of its graduates into postgraduate programs at leading public universities stands as a testament to the quality of education at Jiroft University.

In line with its overarching mission as a community-oriented and accountable institution, Jiroft University has always prioritized sustainable development in southern Kerman Province.

At the national and regional levels, the university has pursued active collaboration by signing memorandums of understanding and cooperation agreements with universities, research centers, and executive organizations, fulfilling its mission of responding to both national and regional needs.

On the International Stage

In recent years, Jiroft University has successfully established a strong foundation for expanding its research and educational collaborations at the international level. The university has signed memorandums of understanding and research cooperation agreements with several prestigious foreign universities and research institutions, including the Universities of Milan and Padua in Italy, Harvard University and the University of Pennsylvania in the United States, Deccan College Pune and Rai University in India, the University of Warsaw in Poland, the University of Madrid in Spain, the University of Tübingen in Germany, and Ghent University in Belgium.

Looking ahead to its ten-year vision, Jiroft University aspires to become an entrepreneurial and skill-oriented institution, ranking among the leading universities in the region, while playing a pioneering role in the sustainable development of southern Kerman Province and the surrounding areas.
